Facelift Surgery Guide with Skin Works Medical Spa

The following seven tips are provided to help with skincare after plastic surgery. They can help you to keep your youthful look and heal quickly. If you have any questions, such as facelift surgery costs, make sure you contact us for clarification.

1. Cleansing

The day after the procedure takes place, gently remove any bandaging and clean around the incision area. Doing so will clear bacteria from the area to keep infections from setting in.

After the bandages have been removed, don’t treat the skin harshly. Be especially careful around areas that are tender or where inflammation is evident. It is not uncommon to have light bleeding where the incision took place.

Wash the general area of the incisions gently, being cautious not to apply excessive pressure. Antibacterial soap and water can be used or you can use a facial cleanser. After washing, use a clean towel to pat the area until it is dry. Repeat up to three times daily. Your plastic surgeon may recommend you use peroxide and antibacterial ointment.

2. Moisturizing

Use a soft cloth to moisturize the skin along with using an antibacterial cleanser after the general cleaning takes place. Doing so will keep scarring to a minimum. A moisturizer can then be used but try to use one that doesn’t have a scent.

Keeping the area near the incision moisturized is important to reduce the possibility of scars and to facilitate the healing process. Keeping the skin hydrated with creams and lotions will keep the scars from occurring. As long as you keep up the routine of moisturizing your skin, you can practically guarantee smooth skin for a long time.

3. Keeping Swelling and Bruising to a Minimum

It is not uncommon to swell after a facelift but it is a temporary issue. While resting or sleeping, keep your head elevated. Cold compresses can also be used to reduce inflammation.

4. Sun Avoidance

Many doctors may recommend that you get some sunlight on occasion to benefit the skin but you should avoid it after a facelift. Sun exposure does help with vitamin D, but exposure to UV rays is not good for your incision area.

If you are out of the sun for long periods of time, you may experience a darkening of the incision. It might take you longer to recover, which is why it is recommended you use an SPF 30 or higher sunscreen when going outdoors or sitting near a window.

5. Not Too Much Makeup

Your doctor will let you know when you can start using makeup again. When you do, it would be beneficial to use lightweight and less irritating products. A yellow-based concealer can be used to cover bruising and discoloration. Redness can be covered with a green variant. Don’t sleep in your makeup, remove it before going to bed.

The incision should be completely closed before you begin using makeup again. If makeup gets in an open wound, infections may occur and your recovery time will be increased.

When you no longer see any bruising or swelling and you have allowed your incision to heal, you will love the way that you look. Your regular beauty regimen can be restarted again, including using your makeup of choice.

6. Eat Healthy and Drink Water

Clear liquids should be consumed for a few days after the surgery takes place. Your diet should contain enough protein to keep you satisfied. You may find that healing takes longer if you’re skipping meals.

A high-fiber diet is recommended. This would include whole fruits and vegetables, not those out of a can. Drinking water can help your bowels to move regularly. Other drinks that contain minerals or vitamins can help, but keep the sugar content to a minimum.

7. Allow Your Skin to Heal

After surgery, you may want to get back to your regular routine right away. That could be a mistake because only time can help to heal the wound as it should be healed. You may want to get out and show the world your new look, but don’t rush things so much that you aren’t able to heal properly. These tips can help you heal quickly after your facelift surgery. Before you know it, you will be out enjoying your new look.
